Minor Atom Blues Burst into 'AA' Action
After an extremely successful 2014-2015 season that concluded with an OMHA Championship and Niagara League Championship, the Dundas “Allstate/Copetown Woods” Minor Atom hockey team made the move from Niagara Division 'A' league play to the Tri-County 'AA' league for the upcoming season. The Blues wasted no time in picking up where they left off as they burst into the season securing two victories against the Caledon Hawks and Burlington Eagles.

On Monday, the Blues hosted the Hawks at Market Street, where their never give up attitude proved strong again. Trailing 2-0 entering the 3rd period, the Blues demonstrated their “come back kids” mentality to find the net 3 times and take the 3-2 victory over the Hawks.  Putting up points for the game included Declan Forth, Kael Andrew, and Martin VandenHeuvel, with helpers going to Zachary Klapman, Andrew, and Sean Tutt.  Alex Gazzola stood strong between the pipes, showing the Blues are once again, a force on the ice this season.

On Saturday, the Blues traveled to Burlington to take on the Eagles.  Although the Eagles’ size exceeded expectations, the heart and determination of the Blues was no match for the Eagles.  After a 0-0 score in the first, the Blues found the net with VandenHeuvel opening the scoring and Andrew securing a buzzer beater at the end of the second.  Rookie Jordan Nyland found the net in the 3rd with VandenHeuvel securing the 4th Blues goal to end the game.  Helpers went Declan Forth, Verschoor, and Cheeseman.  Adam Edwards was outstanding in net with the aid of Coy Gordon and Matthew (Gus) Taylor on defense.

The Blues are set to take on another strong opponent on Monday September 28th as they host the Oakville Rangers at Market St. Arena at 7pm, followed by the first tournament of the season in Cobourg this coming weekend.
