Mid Season Update
Mid-Season Review

Our kiddos have come a long way from the start of the season. Although our record shows 4 – 9, its important to note that after starting our first 3 games with a 21 – 1 goals against, we’ve won several and seen 4 losses with goal differentials of 1 or 2.

Also of interest when looking at the numbers is that the losses we saw early in the year against teams now at the top of the division have been cut considerably in our second time around with those teams. (Oakville 1st game 14 – 3, 2nd game 9 – 2. Burlington 1st game 6 – 0, 2nd game 4 -3). Burlington is a game down and just 3 points from being in 3rd place. But, stats are for parents and coaches.
As a development league team, the goal is to build the love of the game while teaching life skills such as teamwork and the benefits of working hard. Its been great to see so many players make solid defensive plays, and equally fantastic to see the number of players now potting goals! The smiles of our kids coming off a big shift is hugely rewarding. Our skating…wow, as a group, has improved so much. The confidence this gives our guys is amazing. Thanks RL for your help!
We will be introducing a helmet sticker for the hardest working most attentive players in practices. The stickers will be awarded on an earned-basis rather than equal distribution. Its our hope that the stickers will cut down the transition time between drills, increase focus, and allow for more fun games at the end of practices. As coaches we liked to see the comeback fight in the Blues last game. We have also seen improvement in getting the puck away from our net quickly and driving it towards the net in the opponents’ zone, and in the willingness to engage with more physical teams. Things we are continuing to work on include offsides and going after the puck every time. We are certain to face a strong team or two at the upcoming Nottawasaga tourney. It will be no doubt a fun weekend for all. Kiddos be sure to bring your mini-sticks and parents your fun shoes.
