2020-2021 DMHA Programming Update
Submitted By Mark Girard on Saturday, August 8, 2020
Dear Membership,

We hope everyone continues to be healthy and safe during this difficult new reality.

The DMHA board of directors has been meeting regularly, in a virtual setting during the pandemic. Many aspects of everyday life have dramatically changed and kids hockey is no exception.

It is in this vain that the DMHA outlines some important changes.

Firstly, the future of rep hockey in Dundas will be different compared to the past two seasons.

Two years ago, the DMHA entered a two year open boundary rep pilot project with the Flamborough Hockey Association. The purpose of the pilot was to allow players, from both associations, to tryout for different levels of competitive hockey without being restricted by OMHA residential boundaries. This new league, with board members from both FHA and DMHA, merged competitive hockey teams with players from both associations. The FHA and DMHA continued to run separate community house league and select programming. With the expiry of the pilot, a decision needed to be made by both associations. After many unsuccessful negotiations, it is the decision of both associations not to proceed with any further amalgamation talks. As a result, the Flamborough/Dundas rep hockey league will be dissolved. This decision didn’t come quickly or easily for either board.
At this time, the DMHA board would like to sincerely thank the FHA for their partnership over the last two hockey seasons.
Moving forward, Dundas will offer rep programming as a BB Centre.

It is important to note; until such time that public health officials allow Ontario to enter stage 4 of reopening, there will be no representative hockey programming.

For the coming 2020/21 season, DMHA will be offering modified hockey programming based on both Public Health Guidelines and the Ontario Hockey Federation’s “ Return to Hockey Framework”. What this programming will look like is unknown at this time. The start of the season will depend upon the city of Hamilton’s strategy regarding arena reopening. We are hopeful Market St. arena will be open by October. We are opening registration now, fees will be collected at a later date. DMHA is asking everyone to register immediately as this will provide the city with the numbers needed to provide appropriate ice time for the DMHA 2020/21 programming.
