2020-21 Season Details
Submitted By Darren Brown on Sunday, September 20, 2020
The DMHA executive would like to thank everyone for your patients as we work out our season programming, due to the COVID 19 pandemic traditional hockey as we know it simply will not exist this season, we have developed a program that will hopefully keep our kids happy and healthy on the ice. DMHA programming has been structured based on regulations from Hamilton’s Public Health Unit, the OHF’s return to hockey framework, and ice availability. Although Market St Arena is scheduled to open Oct 3rd and Olympic on Nov 2nd, many other Hamilton arenas will not open this season causing other associations and programs to also operate out of Dundas arenas, this will create scheduling much different than previous seasons.

Season Format

This season will be divided in 2 sessions. Session 1 will run from October to December. This session will consist primarily of development. Modified gameplay of 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 will begin when the OHF moves into stage 3c of its return to hockey framework.   https://www.ohf.on.ca/risk-management/return-to-hockey-covid-19-response
Unfortunately there will be no playoffs, city championships or traditional games this season.
Session 2 will run from January to March. Details will be announced in December. Cost will be similar to session 1.
There will be no tryouts or evaluations this season, DMHA will run 2 tiers of workout groups, these groups will consist of 20 skaters. Players will be placed in a group based on their level of play last season. Tier 1 groups will consist of players who played at the representative level last season, Tier 2 will consist of players who played houseleague last season.
These groups will be put into teams of 10 when game play is allowed.
Tier 1 groups will begin Oct 3rd and will have 2 sessions per week
Tier 2 groups will begin Oct 23rd, U9 - U15 Tier 2 age groups will have 2 sessions per week, IP players in U5 U6 and U7 will have 1 session per week.
Tier 2 U18(Midget) start date will be announced by the end of October.

Session 1 Cost

Tier 1 Rep players - $375
Tier 2 HL players - $300
Tier 2 U18(Midget) - TBD
IP U5 U6 U7 players - $150

Arena Protocols

To ensure everyone’s safety the City of Hamilton’s Public Health Authority has put the following strict safety measures in place:
No dressing room or bench access, players must come to the arena in full equipment, chairs will be set up in designated places to tie skates,
Players must wear a mask when entering and exiting the building, masks are not required when on the ice or wearing a helmet.
Parents must wear masks at all times and remain socially distant after entering the arena, max 1 parent or guardian per player (subject to change) all parents must check in with their player 15 minutes prior to start time, any player arriving late will not be allowed entry, parents leaving the arena will not be allowed re entry.

This season volunteers will be more important than ever, positions can range from coaches, trainers, convenors and health screeners for each team group. Anyone interested please forward your information to [email protected]
