The Dundas Nine-O Tyke Blues took to the road
this weekend to compete in the Bradford Bulldogs tournament at the Nottawasaga
Resort. The Blues got to taste both
victory and defeat battling hard against each opponent.
Dundas opened the tournament with a 4-4 tie against North Toronto. This momentum carried them into the second game, where they secured an 8-0 victory over the Kitchener Rangers.
On Saturday, the Blues faced their toughest competition this season, with a 5-0 defeat to the Stouffville Clippers. The Blues posted enough points to secure a spot in the semi-final game on Sunday against their arch rivals, the Hespler Shamrocks. Both teams left everything on the ice that morning, but the Shamrock’s goalie robbed numerous scoring efforts by the Blues, resulting in a 2-1 defeat.
Goal scorers for the weekend included Kael Andrew, Martin and Logan VandenHeuvel, Declan Forth and Kai Sulentic. Assists went to Christopher Cheeseman, Sean Tutt, Jude Kierstead , Zachary Klapman, Ben Rego, Owen Cox, Kyle Wheaton, Andrew, Forth, Sulentic, and the VandenHeuvels. Coy Gordon and Matthew Taylor’s defensive play was instrumental in relieving the pressure on the Blues net minders, Alex Gazzola and Adam Edwards.
League play resumes this week as the Blues head to Milton on Thursday to take on the soaring Winterhawks, followed by the Blues welcoming the Woolwich Wildcats on Saturday at 5:00 pm at Market St. Arena.
