Blues Drop Decision to Woolwich
The Dundas PeeWee AE Blues concluded their Tri-County league playoff round robin on Friday, March 1st in Elmira, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Woolwich Wildcats. With the loss, the Blues fall to 4-2 in the round robin.
It was a dream start for Dundas. Bradley Wright chipped the puck out of the Blues zone, and went in on a breakaway, firing a shot past the Wildcats goaltender only 18 seconds into the game. And, for the rest of the period, Matthew Persadie was solid in goal, helping the visitors to lead 1-0 after one.
Midway through the second period, the Blues started to find themselves in penalty trouble. The disparity in penalties was a bit puzzling, given the fact that both teams were taking the body in a similar fashion. Dundas found themselves 2 men short on a pair of occasions, and on the first instance, the home side scored to tie the game at 1-1, a score that stood with a period to play.
Again, the Blues were penalized to start the third period, and again, they found themselves two men down. The Wildcats took advantage a second time, scoring to take their first lead. Midway through the final period, Woolwich increased their lead, and then tallied once more, into an empty net, to make the 4-1 final.
Persadie was great for Dundas, keeping his team in the game as long as he was able. But ultimately, the 14 to 2 discrepancy in penalty minutes was too much for the Blues to overcome. That said, give the Wildcats credit, as they are a great team, who play a disciplined system.
Dundas awaits the remaining round robin results, to see if they will have a chance to advance. They then conclude their season with the Pepsi Tournament in Buffalo, to be played Apri 5-7th.
